High School Youth Program
The conference committee is planning a dynamic program stream for 30 high school youth interested in environment and sustainability, including ten participants from Mi’kmaw communities. The youth will fully participate in the conference while also having special program options tho suit their particular interests and needs. There will also be opportunities for them to take leadership roles in the delivery of various aspects of the conference. All youth will stay together in residence, providing an opportunity to connect with their peers under adult supervision. The conference meals and fee is free for high school youth but they must pay for three nights in residence at a cost of $100. The high school youth program will start at 4 pm on Thursday May 18 in advance of the opening keynote session at 7 pm. This will enable time for the youth to get to know each other and have supper together, building relationships that will facilitate learning and fun through the conference. More details will be forthcoming.
Adult conference registrants are also being offered the opportunity to volunteer to be a part of a Nitap trio. Nitap is the Mi’kmaw word for friend. As a Nitap, an adult is partnered with two youth delegates over the course of the conference. The Nitap trios will be introduced in a Welcome activity just before the opening keynote, enjoy breakfast together on Friday, and participate in a reflection exercise on Sunday morning.
